SEO monitoring: let your website be checked automatically

Websites rarely break all at once. Usually it happens quietly during an update. With monitoring, Crawl Foundry checks the site regularly and emails you when new problems appear.

Let's start

In a nutshell

Monitoring is a smoke alarm for your website.

A smoke alarm only goes off when there's a fire. In the same way, Crawl Foundry checks your website on a fixed schedule and emails you when a new problem appears, for example a blocked page or a broken link.

Why it matters: One wrong checkbox in the CMS can make a page disappear from Google. The sooner you notice, the smaller the damage.

Compare technical changes with SEO Monitoring. Keep search-position observations separate with Keyword Tracking; a simultaneous change does not establish its cause.

First things first

What to look out for first

  1. 1.Match the rhythm to the changes

Do thisCheck weekly when new content or updates arrive regularly.

Not thisChecking daily for a website that changes twice a year.

  2. 2.Only alerts you'll act on

Do thisNotifications for new errors such as blocked pages or broken links.

Not thisGetting alerted about every small thing until you delete the emails unread.

  3. 3.The alert reaches the right person

Do thisThe email goes to the person who can actually fix the problem.

Not thisEvery alert lands in an inbox nobody reads.

Step by step

How to do it in Crawl Foundry

  1. 1Step 1 of 3

    Add a schedule

In Site Audit, open “Automation” and click “Add schedule”. Choose how often to check, for example weekly, and click “Activate schedule”. Scheduled audits only run for verified domains.

Done when: “Automation” shows when the next run starts.

  2. 2Step 2 of 3

    Switch on email notifications

In the same area, click “Add notification”. Choose who gets the email and click “Activate notifications”. From now on, Crawl Foundry emails you after an audit when it finds new problems.

Done when: The notification is active and you're on the recipient list.

  3. 3Step 3 of 3

    Respond to an alert

Open the audit the email is about. Look at which pages are affected and fix the errors first. The next run shows whether the problem has gone.

Done when: The next audit no longer shows the problem.

Common mistakes

Mistakes that happen a lot at the start

  • Setting up monitoring without a verified domain.

Better: Scheduled audits are skipped while the domain isn't verified. Verify it first.

  • Ignoring alerts because there are too many.

Better: Only get notified about the problems that really matter. Better a few alerts you take seriously.

  • Waiting for an alert after the first run.

Better: The first audit is the starting point. Alerts only come once there's something to compare.
