Sistrix Alternatives: 7 Tools Compared and When Switching Makes Sense

Sistrix is a standard in German-speaking markets. Still, many teams look for an alternative. This comparison shows what Sistrix does well, what it costs and when a different tool fits better.

Anyone doing SEO in German-speaking markets knows Sistrix. Many agencies and companies use its visibility index as the shared benchmark for how a domain develops. Still, many teams look for a Sistrix alternative. The best-known options set different priorities: cheaper entry plans, deeper technical analysis or a different billing model. An alternative pays off mainly when price, billing model or way of working does not fit your tasks. If Sistrix covers your core questions best, switching rarely makes sense.

After this comparison, you can decide which Sistrix alternative fits your tasks and budget, and whether switching or combining tools is the better choice. We offer an alternative ourselves with Crawl Foundry. That makes it all the more important to say where Sistrix remains the better choice.

What Sistrix does well

Sistrix is a comprehensive SEO toolbox. Its core is the visibility index, which Sistrix says it has collected since 2008. It measures Google rankings for a large, fixed keyword set and weights them. Because many companies in German-speaking markets use the same index, it works well for comparing competitors and putting large movements into context, for example after a Google update or a relaunch.

Sistrix also offers domain and competitor analysis, keyword research, backlink data, projects with their own rank tracking, technical onpage crawls, content tools, reports and an API. Depending on the plan, the available history goes back up to eleven years. For many teams, this combination of long history and a shared benchmark is the reason to stay with Sistrix.

What Sistrix costs

According to the Sistrix pricing page, these plans apply as of September 26, 2026, all per month excluding VAT:

PlanPriceUsersProjectsCrawl volumeAPI credits per weekHistory
StartEUR 1191330,000 URLs1,0003 months
PlusEUR 239315500,000 URLs10,0005 years
ProfessionalEUR 4196402,000,000 URLs30,00011 years
PremiumEUR 799121004,000,000 URLs100,00011 years

All plans can be cancelled monthly. A twelve-month term lowers the monthly price. Sistrix offers a free 14-day trial. Prices and quotas can change, so always check the vendor's current page before you decide.

Why teams look for an alternative

The reasons for looking at alternatives are usually similar:

  • Fixed costs for small teams. For freelancers, small agencies or companies with a single website, a fixed monthly fee is hard to justify when many features are rarely used.
  • Short history in the entry plan. The Start plan includes three months of history. If you want to look at developments over years, you need a larger plan.
  • Quota-based rather than needs-based billing. Some teams need a lot of data one month and hardly any the next. A fixed plan fits that pattern only moderately well.
  • Workflows rather than analysis. Analysis shows what happened. Teams also need a place where keywords are collected, assessed, organized into lists and handed to the editorial team.
  • Many clients, clean separation. Agencies want to keep client data separate and give clients targeted access.

Not every one of these reasons speaks against Sistrix. If you mainly need the visibility index, there is hardly an equivalent replacement.

What to look at when comparing

Comparing tools by feature lists almost always leads to the wrong result, because similar-sounding features are implemented very differently. Check these points instead.

  1. Your weekly tasks. Write down what your team actually does every week: research keywords, check rankings, watch competitors, find technical errors, report. Only these tasks count in the comparison.
  2. Data coverage for your market. Test with your own topics, including small niches and local terms. A large, well-known domain says little about coverage of your market.
  3. Metrics are not interchangeable. Every vendor estimates search volume slightly differently. The differences are even larger for proprietary metrics such as keyword difficulty. Domain authority is not a Google value either, but each tool's own estimate. So compare trends within one tool, never absolute values between tools.
  4. History and export. How far back does the history go, and can you export your data completely before you cancel?
  5. Users and clients. How many people work with the tool, and do you need separate areas for clients?
  6. Total cost. Do not just compare plan prices, but also additional users, data requests and the effort of importing, cleaning and reporting.

The 7 most important Sistrix alternatives

Broadly, there are three kinds of alternatives: international all-in-one suites, specialized tools for one task and flexible data platforms that bill by usage. These seven tools are compared most often.

1. Semrush. The best-known international suite, with keyword research, competitor analysis, backlinks, rank tracking, site audits, advertising data and AI search tracking. A good fit if you plan SEO and paid search together or analyze many countries. According to its pricing page, plans start at EUR 134 per month, and additional users cost extra.

2. Ahrefs. Best known for its extensive backlink index and content research, plus keyword and competitor analysis. A good fit when link building and content research are at the center of your work.

3. SE Ranking. An all-in-one suite with a focus on rank tracking, site audits and keyword research, generally considered a more affordable alternative to the large suites. A good fit for agencies and smaller teams tracking many rankings.

4. Seobility. A German provider with an onpage crawler, rank tracking and backlink analysis, plus a free entry plan. A good fit for smaller websites and getting started with technical checks.

5. AccuRanker. A specialized rank tracker for large keyword sets. A good fit if you mainly need to measure rankings at scale and cover analysis elsewhere.

6. Screaming Frog SEO Spider. A desktop crawler for technical audits, limited to 500 URLs in the free version. A good fit for deep technical checks, but it does not replace keyword or visibility data.

7. Crawl Foundry. Keyword database, Position Tracking, domain and competitor analysis and Site Audit in one account, with data on demand instead of fixed quotas. A good fit for teams that want to connect keyword planning, tracking and technical checks. Details in the next section.

On top of that, the free Google Search Console belongs in every toolkit, because only it shows real clicks and impressions for your own website.

Crawl Foundry as a Sistrix alternative: what fits and what does not

Crawl Foundry combines a keyword database, Position Tracking, domain and competitor analysis and a technical Site Audit in one account. The key difference is the billing model: importing, organizing, tagging, clustering and exporting keywords is free for good. Fresh data such as search volume, rankings or domain analyses is paid from a balance in euros, and you see the cost before every confirmation.

This is how the comparison looks for the most common tasks:

TaskSistrixCrawl Foundry
Market-wide visibility indexYes, since 2008, fixed keyword setNo, visibility only for your tracked keyword sets
Domain analysisYesAuthority, estimated traffic, keywords, competitors, top pages, backlinks, up to 60 months of history
Competitor comparisonYesUp to 20 competitors with keyword gap
Keyword researchYesYes, data per keyword on demand
Rank trackingIn projectsSchedules from daily to monthly, with a budget cap
Technical crawl30,000 to 4,000,000 URLs depending on planUp to 5,000 pages per crawl depending on plan
Pricing modelFixed monthly plan from EUR 119Free plan, paid plans from EUR 30 to 100 that include more balance than the plan price

The table is honest about the limits: if you need a market-wide index or very large technical crawls, Sistrix is the better fit. Crawl Foundry fits better if you want to buy data flexibly as needed, maintain keywords as a lasting inventory and combine research, tracking and technical checks in one workflow. For agencies, every client also gets its own workspace. Plans range from 3 to 50 workspaces.

Who should take which path

Stay with Sistrix if the visibility index is a fixed part of your reports, if clients or managers expect exactly that value, or if you need long histories for many third-party domains.

Switching can pay off if you only use the toolbox for a few tasks, if your data needs fluctuate strongly or if your work mainly consists of keyword planning, tracking and technical checks for your own or managed websites.

Combining is often the most pragmatic answer: Sistrix on a smaller plan for the market benchmark and a more flexible tool for daily work. Our guide to the rank tracker explains how to measure rankings reliably regardless of vendor.

How to test a switch

Do not decide based on a demo. A two-week test with real data shows more:

  1. Choose a keyword set with brand, product, guide and local terms.
  2. Add your own domain and two competitors.
  3. Track the same set in both tools with the same market, language and device.
  4. Do not compare absolute values, but whether both show the same movements.
  5. Check exports, user management and the actual cost of the test period.

Before cancelling, export all the data you want to keep. Keyword lists can be moved, histories of proprietary metrics cannot. Switching starts a new time series. Mark that break in your reports.

Which Sistrix alternative fits your tasks

Sistrix is a strong tool with an established benchmark for German-speaking markets. An alternative pays off mainly when fixed costs, billing model or way of working do not suit your team. Compare tasks rather than feature lists, test with your own data and consider combining both.

Write down the three tasks you use Sistrix for most often, then test one alternative against exactly those tasks with your own data.
